Wickedly Fun and Low Priced DIY Halloween Decorations!
To say that I love Halloween would be an understatement. I genuinely adore everything about the season. I love the change in weather and the Fall colors! Something I miss from living in the Midwest and the East Coast. I love the costumes, decorations, and songs. (There are more Halloween-based songs out there than you might think! Move than Christmas!) And call me basic; I don’t care, I love EVERYTHING pumpkin flavored.
Growing up, my mother was no Martha Stewart, but she was crafty as hell! A lot of that love of crafting has rubbed off on me. Feel free to judge away on if I did a “Spook-tacular” job or if I’m “Dead Wrong” for even trying! I’ll also give you my take on how easy, complex, or time-consuming these projects may be.

I found this Halloween wreath on Pinterest as a DIY Dollar Store Wreath. I decided to put my own spin on it and did two different styles. One that is a little more expensive, around $30, and a less expensive version under $10. Almost everything I got for both of the wreaths I made from the Dollar Tree, with a few splurge items from Michaels.
Here are my two DIY wreaths:
First up, this is the less expensive version which ran just under $10.

Steps for wreath #1 (more simple design):
- Dollar Tree had wireframes, decorative bones, the black skulls, and the glittery wispy sticks. These all come several to a bag. Michael’s had the black roses on sale for $1.50 each. Score!
- I used a lot of hot glue and patience as I glued the bones around the wires.
- The flowers helped cover the fact that I really didn’t plan ahead to see if everything would fit first. But the great thing about DIY is you can protect your mistakes with flowers!
This is my more expensive version, but it still only costs around $30.

Steps for wreath #2 (more elaborate design):
- I used the wire wreath frame from the Dollar Tree, the black skulls (in a bag of about 10), the black and orange glittery wispy sticks, and a kitchen draw liner.
- From Michaels, I used 3 black roses and the big splurge: 2 REALLY COOL Halloween crafting garlands which were on sale for about $7 each. But one looks like blackthorn knotted brush, and the other has its own glittery wisps and glittery bats!
- I did think a little outside the box (as I actually have no idea how to make wreaths) and first used the Dollar Tree kitchen shelf liner. Cutting it into thin strips, I wrapped it around the wire wreath and sewed the pieces together at the ends. Because the kitchen liner has tiny holes throughout it, it was perfect for shoving pieces in to stay and worked great for sewing other details on.
- I hot glued the skulls to the flowers and then flowers to the wreath. However, other than that, almost everything in this one was sewn together.
Time will only tell if these will last multiple seasons, but it was fun to do. For such a low price, you could create a new one each year!
