Evil Dead Rise coming soon to HBO MAX!
The Evil Dead franchise is so beloved in the horror community! So, we were THRILLED to find out that Evil Dead 4 “Evil Dead Rise” is in the works! Both Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell will produce the film. HOWEVER, the character of Ash is retired. So, unfortunately, this film will NOT star Campbell as the beloved character of Ash Williams. *sad face*
Here’s what we’ve heard: The writer/director of the film will be Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground). They’ve also taken away the cherished cabin in the woods setting, and this new film will be in a suburban neighborhood. Knock Knock. Can I borrow some sugar and SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!?
However, is it really Evil Dead if it’s not written and directed by Sam Raimi and missing Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams? We did enjoy the 2013 Evil Dead film, but we left the theater feeling something was lacking. To us, that was the campy fun of the other films. We hope that although Campbell won’t be starring in this rendition of the franchise, Lee Cronin will capture the terror and joy of Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness. We also really love the Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead. It was delightfully disgusting and (dare I say it) moist! We are very curious if the show will also be part of the new film’s canon. Although Ash may not be making an appearance, it would be great to see Kelly and Pablo help to fight the deadites with the new protagonists to be played by Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan!
Either way, we have high expectations for this installation into the Evil Dead franchise and hope that there will be a parallel theatrical release when it launches on the HBO MAX platform by the time it comes out. No release dates as of yet. So, stay tuned and stay groovy!
