Review of Evil Dead 2 with Commentary from Bruce Campbell Live!

Going into the screening of Evil Dead 2 we were not sure what to expect but all we DID know was how much we love Bruce Campbell and that it was no doubt going to be a fun time! However, anyone that went into this thinking they’d actually be watching the movie was sorely disappointed. Campbell and his dapper self sat in a chair amongst a backdrop (Regrettably we did not take pictures) going through the film pretty much scene-by-scene relaying stories of evil yesteryear.

Here are some fun tidbits from the commentary:

Stephen King had a HUGE part in getting the Evil Dead 2 made. He was instrumental in fact. Evil Dead 2 was having lots of financial issues and they had to dismiss some of the crew. Coincidentally, one of those crew members from Evil Dead 2 went on to work on the set of a film being made by Stephen King. When word got out the film may not get made, Stephen King did everything he could to make sure that happened including getting Dino De Laurentiis involved. Kudos Stephen King!

Bruce Campbell as “Deadite Ash” grabbing Linda’s necklace in Evil Dead 2

Bruce Campbell made several hilarious mentions of this piece of jewelry in the film calling it a “Dumb Necklace” that was enjoyable. lol

Ted Raimi as Possessed Henrietta in Evil Dead 2

Ted Raimi as Henrietta: OMG! Campbell told quite a story about how they realized early on there was no way they were going to get “This Old Lady” (Lou Hancock) to get into the makeup and suit, so Raimi played possessed Henrietta. Campbell recounts a disgusting story of how Raimi got so hot in the suit that at one point the cast and crew were all sprayed down by his sweat that was pouring out on one of the takes! Yikes! Evil Dead 2 is very moist in general. That sort of thing was bound to happen. It was also very enjoyable to see Raimi reprise his role as possessed Henrietta in Ash vs. Evil Dead Season 2!

The set: Production built the entire set at a school! So cool! Time to learn kiddies or you’ll be dead by dawn! ha ha

Special Effects: Campbell told several stories of how they were able to capture some of those remarkable shots in Evil Dead 2 from Campbell spinning around in the woods to the shot of evil blasting through the woods and through the car and into the cabin. For the shot of Campbell in the woods, he was hoisted upon a rig on a crane with a camera. There was a wooden X under his clothing and they spun him around! Yowsa!

Here’s another fun bit of trivia where Bruce Campbell explains the connection between Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 and it also shows the scene where Bruce is flying and spinning in the woods.

All in all, we had such a great time and there was mention of Bruce Campbell doing another commentary session for Army of Darkness! We’ll keep you posted!
