New Year’s Horror Films!
Are you looking for some SCREAMS of TERROR to ring in the new year? We’ve been doing some digging and we came up with this diverse list of New Year’s horror films to watch streaming that includes classics you love, indie, and foreign films. We’re watching them now and will update this page with our rating as we go. Some we’ll think are great and some not so much but we’re doing the work so you don’t have to! Rating system: 1 to 5. 1 being the worst and 5 being the best.
Antisocial (2013): A group of university friends and family get together for a big house party to celebrate the new year and unbeknownst to them the world just may be ending around them.
Rating: 4.5. This movie is great. Recommend!

Bloody New Year (1987): A bunch of friends go to an isolated island for a vacation to find that the hotel is decorated for New Years’…only thing is it’s the Summertime and they’re about to discover terror instead of relaxation! This movie is 80stastic!

Break (2019): A group of friends decide to ring in the new year at the top of a mountain peak and are trapped in a gondola lift. This fun adventure soon becomes their worst nightmare! I’ve got a HUGE fear of heights so this terrifies me to no end!! This film is Russian dubbed in English.

Countdown (2012): Three Thai teens in New York City are planning a New Year’s bash! They call a drug dealer to drop off some “things” for them so they can celebrate the end of the year with a bang! Little do they know that their drug dealer has other ideas in mind. This is a Thai film subtitled in English.

End of Days (1999): Nearing the end of the century Satan comes to New York City to find his bride and to unlock the gate of Hell! I know you’re saying, “Isn’t this an Arnold Schwartzenegger movie?” yes, but it’s actually pretty fun and Gabriel Byrne is always incredible. Also starring Robin Tunney (The Craft), Kevin Pollack (The Usual Suspects), and Udo Kier (Blade and Halloween 2007).

The Eve (2014): A group of friends travel to Martha’s Vineyard to ring in the new year and as the trip continues tensions flare while an unknown presence reveals itself and turns this vacation into a fight for survival!
Rating: 1.5. The female leads were good actors but one of the male leads who also produced and wrote this feature was not so much and the story was all over the place.

Ghostkeeper (1981): A small group of friends on a snowmobile outing for the new year to discover they’re stranded at a deserted lodge and the innkeeper is hiding its secrets.

Holidays (2016): This horror anthology is comprised of eight dark stories. Explore the unique and disturbing tales of several holidays. Each short is directed by a different filmmaker and includes a talented and extensive cast including Lorenza Izzo (Knock Knock, The Green Inferno), Seth Green, and Kevin Smith directs the Halloween short. New Year’s Eve was one of our favorites. (Also on our Holiday list)
Rating: 4.25

Into the Dark: Midnight Kiss (2018): This film is part of the Blumhouse series Into the Dark exclusively for Hulu. Midnight Kiss follows a group of best friends that go to the desert for the New Year. They end up playing a traditional game called “Midnight Kiss” and soon find that there’s a sadistic stranger who wants in. Their friendships are put to the test as the night continues into chaos and a fight to survive!

Into the Dark: New Year, New You (2018): This film is part of the Blumhouse series Into the Dark exclusively for Hulu. So we are already in. Four women that were childhood friends get together for a slumber party to ring in the new year. Things go South when memories from the past resurface. The characters in this movie had a lot of depth and this film has a subtle and intense start but hits a home run in ACT 3!
Rating: 4. Loved it!

The Mansion aka Le Manoir (2017): A group of young students goes to celebrate new year’s in a deserted and old mansion. Strange occurrences begin and the students soon realize this new year’s party is going to turn into their new year’s nightmare. This horror/comedy is a French film and is subtitled in English.

Midnighters (2017): It’s midnight on New Year’s Eve and a young married couple faces misery and misfortune after they cover up a terrible accident and find their strained relationship going from bad to worse. Starring Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes and Doctor Sleep).
Rating: 3.9

Minutes to Midnight (2018): It’s nearly New Year’s Eve, seven friends and a cryptic backpacker come together at an isolated ski lodge in the deep mountains and they are hunted by psychopathic masked strangers. Starring William Baldwin, Richard Grecco, and Dominque Swain.

The Millenium Bug (2011): A family seeks solace and refuge from the Y2K hysteria in the hidden forests of the Sierra Diablos mountains and is met with sheer terror. The family is abducted by an insane hillbilly clan. However, the family and the hillbillies must fight for their survival amongst the monstrous nightmare about to join them from the depths of the earth.

New Year’s Evil (1980): This film takes place during the height of the punk rock era on New Year’s Eve. The killer is hellbent on murdering at the stroke of midnight in each time zone and will who be next!? We liked this film. It’s what you want from an 80s New Year’s horror movie. The reveal…well you’ll see.

Night of the Virgin (2016): It’s New Year’s Eve and 20-year old Nico is determined to lose his virginity before he rings in the new year. He comes across cougar Medea who is more than willing to grant his wish…but at what cost? This movie looks INCREDIBLE and we can’t wait to watch it! I’ve read it’s very gory so take heed those who are squeamish. This film is in Spanish with English subtitles.

The Signal (2007): On New Year’s Eve an inexplicable signal takes over the radio and television airways and turns people into savage killers. This film is set up similar to an anthology where there are three parts all done by three different directors with various tones.
Rating: 2.5. Structurally interesting but act two was so far left field it didn’t work for us.

Steel Trap (2007): Seven people are invited to a new year’s party on the rooftop of an abandoned building to find out they’re victims in the host’s sadistic games.

Talisman (1998): As the turn of the century draws near, an evil entity is being awakened. So, Theriel, the Black Angel is called up to bring about the end of the days. The horrendous servant must claim seven human sacrifices to complete the ceremony and open the gates of Hell. An adolescent boy and girl have been selected to aid the dark angel but they alone are the world’s only hope for preservation. Eek!

Terror Train (1980): This 80s horror classic stars Jamie Lee Curtis and takes place three years after a prank went horribly wrong. The college kids responsible are targeted by a disguised killer during a New Year’s Eve party on a moving train.
Rating: 4.5. Terror Train is a horror classic! Jamie Lee Curtis forever!
