Justin Long Horror Movie Watchlist!
We love Justin Long at Married to Horror and thought it would be fun to do a watchlist of his horror flicks! Long has a way of capturing the “every man” and connecting with his audience in a way that sinks you into all his performances from any genre, whether it be drama, comedy, action, or horror. We always believe in any character he plays, whether he’s the boy next door, the sweet guy, or the arrogant ass! He connects to us in a way that’s so relatable.
We’re looking forward to all the work he has coming our way in the future. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment, Justin Long! We hope you enjoy this watchlist of his horror films.
*Please note* Films are listed in alphabetical order. Streaming availability is posted according to publish date. For streaming updates, please check your local listings and the linked Just Watch page!
After.Life (2009): After a car accident, a young woman (Christina Ricci) caught between life and death meets a funeral director (Liam Neeson) who claims to be the only one that can see or hear her now. She desperately tries to prove that she’s not dead and tries to reach out to her boyfriend (Long) for help.
This film, I would say, is more of a psychological thriller but definitely has horror elements. It’s a pretty scary scenario waking up in a morgue, and someone’s about to slice you open, yikes!

Streaming: Amazon Prime Video, The Roku Channel, Tubi, Indie Flix, FreeVee, and available for rental.
Barbarian (2022): A young woman rents an inexpensive Airbnb and soon realizes you get what you paid for…
We think Barbarian is an INCREDIBLE film! From start to finish, you’re pulled in and feel a sense of uneasiness and terror. The entire cast, including Justin Long, Bill Skarsgard, Georgina Campbell, and more are just so good! Barbarian is also Zach Cregger’s directorial horror debut. He’s more well-known for his comedy work (The Whitest Kids You Know, Wrecked), but I’d say he has a promising future in the horror/thriller genre!

Streaming: Hulu, MAX, DirecTV, and available for rental.
Creepshow (2021): Simon (Long) has invented an incredible virtual reality experience that allows him to be an active part of his favorite films – but soon realizes that this alternative reality has become his own.
Justin Long stars in this Creepshow revival episode called “Night of the Living Late Show,” along with D’arcy Carden (The Good Place, Barry, Broad City). The two play an unlikely coupling, and Carden’s character feels slighted by Simon’s obsession with his invention.

Streaming: Exclusively on Shudder.
Dear David (2023): A writer for Buzzfeed succumbs to cyberbullying and writes back a nasty message. He is later plagued by the haunting of a ten-year-old boy named David.
Dear David just came out recently, and we haven’t seen this just yet. Justin Long is top-billed in this film but doesn’t appear in the trailer. So, it seems like stunt casting, and he’s probably in Dear David for a short time. Either way, the movie looks pretty good!

Streaming: Available for rental and to buy only at this time.
Drag Me to Hell (2009): Christine, a loan officer (Alison Lohman), is pressured to evict an elderly woman from her home. Christine is then cursed out of revenge. Desperate to survive this, she turns to a seer to save her soul while the evil of this curse works to push her to a breaking point beyond her wildest dreams.
In this terrifying Sam Raimi film, Justin Long plays Christine’s boyfriend, Clay. We love Drag Me to Hell! The morality theme in this film reminds you of what’s more important in life and the afterlife…

Streaming: Available for rental only. (Don’t hesitate – just rent it)
Goosebumps (2023): Justin Long stars as Nathan Bratt, a new English teacher who’s moved to a small, sleepy town. He’s possessed by a teen, Harold Biddle, to take revenge on a group of five high schoolers whose parents caused him harm; now, the kids must work together to save their town.
This Hulu/Disney+ Series is scary and fun! It’s much darker than what you’d expect for a Goosebumps series. Long is SO good in it!
Streaming: Disney+ and Hulu
House of Darkness (2022): Hap’s (Long) night takes a turn when he offers Mina a ride home with ulterior motives. It soon becomes clear that he’s not alone. Will he see the signs something is truly sinister here? House of Darkness has a very distinct eerie and moodiness. Shot mainly in one creepy mansion, it could easily be a stage play and comes from Neil LaBute, who also directed the 2006 remake of The Wicker Man starring Nicolas Cage.
Fun facts:
– The film also stars Kate Bosworth, his real-life wife and partner.
– The characters Mina and Lucy from the film are also character names from Bram Stoker’s Dracula!

Steaming: Hulu and available for rental.
Jeepers Creepers (2001): Two siblings (Gina Philips, Justin Long) drive home through the secluded countryside for spring break and encounter a flesh-eating monster that would like nothing better than to consume the flesh off their bones. Jeepers Creepers is a pretty substantial horror cult hit. Terrifying in all aspects, with great performances from Long, Philips, and supporting characters. Long also appears in Jeepers Creepers 2 through archival footage.
*Please Note* Although Married to Horror acknowledges this film as part of Justin Long’s horror resume, we do not condone or agree with the actions of the film’s director Victor Salva.

Streaming: Amazon Prime Video and available for rental.
Lavender (2016): A photographer recovering from amnesia discovers old fractures in her skull and becomes haunted by a terrifying secret from her youth.
Lavender has a definite moodiness to it. The pacing is on the slower side for horror fans that are looking for a lot of jump scares. This isn’t the movie. It’s more of a “haunting” type of film, but we enjoyed it. Long doesn’t star in Lavender but plays an important supporting character.

Streaming: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Kanopy (Ads), Yupp TV (Ads), and available for rental.
Tusk (2014): Long plays Wallace, a pompous podcaster who travels to Canada to interview a mysterious older man who turns out to be a recluse. This strange man turns out to have a disturbing obsession with walruses…
Directed by Kevin Smith, Tusk isn’t for everyone, but those who enjoy the film will be left with its disturbance for days. I personally couldn’t stop thinking about the film for weeks. Stellar performance from Long, Michael Parks, Johnny Depp, Haley Joel Osment, and the rest of the supporting cast! A real departure from Smith’s usual body of work previously. By far, Tusk is one of my favorites of Smith’s films, as well as, Red State.

Streaming: MAX, Kanopy, DirecTV, and available for rental.
COMING SOON:
It’s a Wonderful Knife (2023): After saving her community from a psychotic killer, Winnie Carruthers’ life is less than wonderful. She wishes she’d never been born, and she discovers herself in a terrifying parallel universe where things could not be so good without her.
This film comes from the writer of Freaky (Vince Vaughn, Kathryn Newton), and we loved that, so we have high hopes. The premise for this film sounds like a lot of fun. It’s giving me Happy Death Day vibes. It looks like it takes place during the holidays, which I’m all for. Love some Holiday horror movies!
The official trailer for It’s A Wonderful Knife isn’t out yet, but it is expected to be released by December 2023.
Spin the Bottle (2023): A group of teenagers in a small-town Texas release an evil force after playing Spin the Bottle in an abandoned house where a gruesome massacre occured.
Also attached to this film is Ali Larter (Final Destination, House on Haunted Hill, Resident Evil: Extinction). There’s no official movie poster or trailer for the film yet but looking forward to seeing this flick!
