Why you should be watching Vampires vs. the Bronx on Netflix!

Horror Movie Recommendation:
Vampires vs. the Bronx

The neighborhood defending their community!

Exclusively for Netflix, Vampires vs. the Bronx is a horror comedy film directed by Oz Rodriguez and written by Oz Rodriguez and Blaise Hemingway. Oz Rodriguez comes from an established comedy background having directed several Funny or Die comedy shorts as well as worked on Saturday Night Live, Last Man on Earth, Maya and Marty, Mixed-ish, Shrill, and A.P. Bio. For me, this is why the “Comedy” in this Horror-Comedy hits the mark!

The film follows a group of teenagers who are compelled to protect their neighborhood in the Bronx when vampires invade under the guise of gentrification. There’s even a neighborhood girl who’s going live on social media with all the occurrences in her neighborhood which gives me (aging myself) 227 vibes. There’s always going to be that neighborhood busy body but now they don’t sit on the stoop and gossip. It goes live on social media!

Beneath the horror-comedy premise stands a real issue that occurs in many urban communities. With change and improvements also comes sucking the life and uniqueness out of the community. The blood-sucking vampires to me, are a metaphor for the “Great White Hope” that comes to town to “fix” the neighborhood. Once you press play right off the bat, you’ll FEEL the grittiness and culture of New York which I loved! Vampires vs. the Bronx also gave me Lost Boys vibes with an updated urban splash!

The film stars three young teen boys played by Jaden Michael, Gerald W. Jones IIIGregory Diaz IV, but for me, it was Coco Jones who stole the show. She plays a Haitian neighbor that’s been preparing for this her entire life and knows just what to do!

Coco Jones joins the boys in their fight for survival from the blood thirsty vampires!

Great performances in the film all around also including Sarah Gadon (Castle Rock, True Detective), Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy, Avatar) Method Man, Chris Redd (Saturday Night Live, Scare Me), and more! I found this movie to be so fun! Ultimately, lots of great suspense and humor in this vampire horror-comedy, and totally recommend it!
