Written by C+D Weiss

From Throwbacks to Current Features: 10 Valentine’s Day-themed Horror movies to Watch this Holiday

Valentine’s day is the perfect time to tell someone you love them and nothing says romance like giving away your heart, literally. Here is a list of Valentine’s Day-themed horror movies to watch! So, cuddle up with that special person, or yourself, or a voodoo doll that you made with your ex’s hair, and enjoy some of these titles. Ah, love!

Films listed in alphabetical order.

50 Kisses (2014): In 2012, The London Screenwriters’ Festival held a competition to find the best 2-page scripts. The theme was Valentine’s Day and each film must include at least one kiss. What resulted was a fun, quirky, scary, and romantic anthology.

Holidays (2016): This is a fantastic anthology spanning different…holidays. The film opens with a Valentine’s Day vignette about a schoolgirl crush gone wrong. Come for love, stay for the terror. Each story is equally entertaining. Featuring segments directed by Kevin Smith, Gary Shore, Anthony Scott Burns, and Sarah Adina Smith.

Into The Dark: Down (2019): This horror-thriller takes place almost entirely in an elevator. That is terrifying enough.

Jennifer and Guy find themselves stuck in an elevator on Valentine’s Day and the building will be empty over a long holiday weekend. How did it happen? How will they get out and is there something more sinister at play? Our suggestion is to not watch the trailer. Half the fun is trying to figure out what is going on.

Into the Dark: My Valentine (2020): Another installment of the Into the Dark series. A young singer/songwriter has her identity stolen by her ex-boyfriend/ex-manager. She is confronted by him and his new protege after a show and an unwanted meeting turns violent.

Lover’s Lane (1999): It’s the 90s! This movie feels like a cross between I Know What You Did Last Summer and Clueless.

A man began a brutal killing spree on Valentine’s Day. Now he is back, thirteen years later, to slay his victim’s children. He and Freddy should hang out.

My Bloody Valentine (1981): A decades-old folk tale surrounding a deranged murderer who kills those who celebrate Valentine’s Day, turns out to be true when a group of coal miners and their friends defy orders not to celebrate the holiday.

My Bloody Valentine 3D (2009): This reboot is close to the original but with a fresh spin. This updated version is just as good. This was made for 3D, so if you have that capability, it is pretty great. Duck!

Valentine (2001): From the director of Urban Legend Jamie Blanks, a group of high school girls are stalked by a disgruntled student from their past. Arrows are not the only thing cupid is using to steal your heart. It’s knives. He’s using knives.

X-Ray aka Hospital Massacre (1982): When Susan goes into the hospital for a routine check-up on Valentine’s Day, she finds a deranged man dressed as a doctor willing to kill anyone who gets in the way of what he wants. What he wants…is Susan. The rockin’ 80s trailer is enough to make you want to watch this film.
