The Mysterious Disappearance of Elisa Lam at the Cecil Hotel is
now on Netflix!

Written by Charlene Weiss

Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel now on Netflix, February 2021!

Anyone that has heard of Elisa Lam and has seen the surveillance video has a difficult time forgetting it. Elisa, a Cantonese woman, lived in Canada and traveled to Los Angeles for a trip never to return…

The circumstances surrounding Elisa’s death are very mysterious. She would contact family every day during her travels and was reported missing on January 31, 2013. After an extensive search for her, Elisa’s body was discovered naked in the water tank of the Cecil Hotel in downtown, Los Angeles, California. The Cecil Hotel guests had complained about the smell and water pressure… Shortly thereafter, the Los Angeles Police Department released this surveillance video that went viral.

Needless to say, this video is puzzling, disturbing, and begs the question of who was she speaking to in the hallway, and was there something paranormal happening there? The Cecil Hotel has a reputation for strange occurrences with suicides and violent deaths on the premises. Back in the 1980s, it’s known that Richard Ramirez AKA The Night Stalker stayed at the Cecil. Ummmm….haunted much?! I’ve lived in Los Angeles since 2003 and remember when this story broke the news. So strange and terrifying! The hotel has since changed its name to Stay on Main and is currently closed for a major renovation and is set to hopefully reopen in the Fall of 2021.

UPDATE: February 12, 2021

Last night we checked out the first episode of Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel! The show takes a dive into Elisa’s background, the history of the Cecil Hotel, and the surrounding area of Skid Row in downtown, Los Angeles. The episode also reveals the famous surveillance video. We’re looking forward to finishing the show this week and will let you know our thoughts!

UPDATE: February 16, 2021

Okay, we finished the series. We’re not going to give any spoilers here but we’ll say this. We did find it interesting. There were definitely things that I didn’t know about Elisa Lam and they really did dive into the back history of the downtown Skid Row area in Los Angeles and the Cecil Hotel. However, this show definitely could have been an hour and a half documentary rather than a 4-part limited series. It takes you through a bit of red herring and unnecessary twists but there were definitely some creepy elements there for sure. The hotel manager is off AF. Something wrong there. Also, #FreeMorbid.

If you’re interested in getting to know Elisa Lam more check out her blog and social media. Her blog is often referred to in the limited series and delves into Elisa’s innermost thoughts.
