Whether you are a horror aficionado or have never really gotten into the genre, I truly believe there is something for everyone in the horror realm. Comedy tends to be the universal ice breaker. Being able to have a moment of levity in any horror movie is fantastic and helps the viewer either have a moment to breathe a bit or lets the audience in on an inside joke, like “Yes, we know this is a crazy situation, the characters think so too.” There are so many amazing horror comedies or horror films out there. This list isn’t a “Best Of”, but more of a sampling of awesome vampire movies to help guide you into the genre till you find yourself laughing yourself to death!
(Rating system is 1-5, 5 Being the scariest. But all of these titles are on the milder side of horror if you are an avid horror watcher)
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
Entitled rich girl, Buffy, learns that she is the “Chosen One” to become the next Slayer to save humanity from Vampires taking over. But will her keen fashion sense be enough?
Most people are familiar with Joss Whedon’s hit TV show Buffy starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, but he actually wrote this movie first! However, the production team took the movie in a different direction making it a lot campier and well, cheesier… and honestly, I’m here for it. Imagine Clueless in a horror genre AND you have the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer played by Kristy Swanson not to mention David Arquette, Luke Perry, and Paul Reubens!

WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS
A documentary team follows around four vampire flatmates, capturing that just because they are undead doesn’t mean they are that different from the living. They have everyday issues like roommate chores, paying rent, and finding virgins to fest upon.
This dark comedy follows the form of “Mockumentary” styles like “Spinal Tap” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous”. And if you want even more from the Shadows, you can catch the hit TV show of the same name on FX.

THE LOST BOYS
When two brothers, Michael and Sam, and their single mother move to a small beach city in California, they start to notice things aren’t as perfect as they seem. Michael begins hanging out with new friends who seem to be changing him for that worst. Sam’s friends on the other hand are on a self-proclaimed mission to save the town from sinister evil.
This movie is the epitome of 1980’s nostalgia! The Hair! The Outfits! The Soundtrack! This film also helped change the perspective of vampires in film, paving the way for the previously mentioned vampire films!
