10 Terrifying Horror Films featuring Spiders

A little something about me. I’m arachnophobic. There I said it…BUT for some reason, I’m also attracted to spiders in an eerie way when of course I’m safe and they’re on the small or silver screen. Yes, I may scream and put my feet up on the seat feeling itchy and say, “What’s on me?!?!” randomly while watching said feature but I can’t help but watch them. Here’s a list of my favorite horror/sci-fi films featuring spiders that are worth checking out!

*Please note* Streaming availability is posted according to publish date. Please check your local listings and the linked Just Watch page for streaming updates!

1. Arachnophobia: This classic from the 90s stars Jeff Daniels,  Harley Jane Kozack, and John Goodman with some of the MOST REALISTIC spiders you’ll see in an arachnid feature even for today! That big boy is NO BUENO! This film will terrify but also has a fun sense of humor to it. Gotta love John Goodman and Jeff Daniels.

Platform: IMDB TV (Free w/ads). For a complete list of where it’s available go to JustWatch.

2. The Mist: This film based on the novel by Stephen King is beyond haunting. The spiders are only ONE of the problems you’ll face in The Mist. Incredible performances including Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Laurie Holden, and Andrew Braugher. You’re guaranteed to think to continue to think about The Mist days after you’ve seen it. Guaranteed. (At least I did ha)

Streaming Platform: Fubo, Sling, & Direct TV (with subscription).

3. Cloverfield: This sci-fi horror film is captivating from the jump! You’ve got alien beasts of all kinds terrorizing the city of New York but don’t go in that subway tho…one of the most horrific scenes in the movie for me. Nothing worse than being in a dark tunnel and then ALSO said tunnel is filled with fast, insane alien spiders! *SCREAM*

Streaming Platform: Fubo. For a complete list of where it’s available go to JustWatch.

4. Eight Legged Freaks: Starring David Arquette, Kari Wuhrer, and a young Scarlett Johansson and from the producers of Independence Day and Godzilla this film is tongue in cheek and that’s exactly where they wanna bite ya…what’s worse than mutant spiders? Not much I’ll tell ya but David Arquette’s humorous quips are very enjoyable.

Streaming Platform: DirecTV & Sling (with subscription) For a complete list of where it’s available go to JustWatch.

5. Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets: All the Harry Potter films are dear to my heart (Although J.K. Rowling isn’t my favorite person right now). A world full of magic, fantasy, mystery, and friendship. However, the second film in the franchise takes a dark turn for me when Aragog and his children arrive. *Shudder*

Streaming Platform: Peacock (Free w/ads), Sling, and Sun NXT (With Subscription). For a complete list of where it’s available go to JustWatch.

6. Kingdom of the Spiders: This 70s cult classic stars William Shatner in all his glory. Lots of REAL tarantulas (ew, nope!) used in this film, and when there’s CGI it’s hilariously done and so enjoyable to watch…you’ll be squealing. I saw this film as a young child and now that I think about it…this might be the core of all my spider issues! Ha! Special edition available on Blu-ray with an interview with William Shatner, behind-the-scenes footage, directors commentary, and more!

Streaming Platform: Amazon (paid rental)

7 . Lavalantula: When there’s an earthquake of epic proportions that unearths lava spiders (hell naw!) from the center of the world, who better to save the day? Come on Steve Guttenberg! Check out this hilarious and yet terrifying spidey tale. They’re hot! Ew.

Streaming Platform: Vudu, Tubi, and Crackle (Free w/ads). For a complete list of where it’s available go to JustWatch.

8. Big Ass Spider!: Starring Greg Grunberg, Lin Shaye (yass!), and Ray Wise (Leland!). This film takes the genre to an extraterrestrial level when alien spiders escape a military laboratory let’s just say…it’s complete chaos. You’ll laugh and you’ll squeal in terror!

Streaming: IMDB TV, Crackle, Prime Video, Tubi, and Amazon video (paid rental).

It was hard to find a good spider shot from this movie. Just see it but beware!

9. Nightmare Cinema: This horror anthology’s opening segment is quite a DOOZY. Brings you back to all those cabin in the woods horror movies that you love but you’ll never expect what’s lurking out there…and it’s not pretty.

Streaming: Hoopla and Shudder. Available for rent on Apple TV, Fandango, and Vudu

10. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark: This captivating realization of the children’s book series of the same name by Alvin Schwartz, produced by Guillermo del Toro follows the story of the Bellows family. There are several terrifying vignettes but there’s nothing scarier than spiders coming out of your face. NIGHTMARE FUEL! NOPE!!

Streaming Platform: Fubu & Showtime (with subscription). For a complete list of where it’s available go to JustWatch.
